Are you human?: 951 Does anyone know if there are differences between the serials on the Korea and USA-produced Wofgangs? Are there any other differences I should be aware of? I got a mail from a guy wanting to do a trade, but damn if I waste my time on a Korea-model. (The guitar I have is a USA-strat) 
The guitar in question can be seen here. I know some of youse guys can identify a male or female mosquito from a 100 yards, so.

Are you human?: 951 The only overseas model with the Wolfgang Special EXP- which was a flat-top special with a quilt photo-quilt or flame top. If it is a Standard (carved top) then it is a USA model.
I used to work at the Leeksville plant where the Wolfgangs were made.

Posts: 2447 The Floyd on the offshore models is cast pot metal. You can spot it a mile away. The USA trem is machined, all smooth polished chrome surfaces, where the other you can see the nodes in the casting, it looks like cast iron that has been plated.
USA models have the serial number stamped, and the EVH signature burned in. Offshore models have a sticker for the serial number and no signature.
There were a small amount of USA quilts made early, within the first four years, out of the custom shop. You probably will not see any of these on ebay, and when sold they fetch upwards of $3500. 
I've reported a number of asshats on ebay who try to sell the offshores as USA models.
I've collected a few USA's over the years, and sent a couple to Peavey for some work. I know a little about this model.

Are you human?: 951 Actually, the original concept behind the Wolfgang was for it to be a quilt-top guitar. However, large amounts of 'quilt' maple rotted on the docks at Peavey due to extremely poor quality in the quilt. There were a few regular production Quilt-top Wolfgangs to make it out of the shop, but it was very cost prohibitive. So the decision was made to go with a flame top, as good flame maple is easier to get in quantities that were needed for the Wolfgang. So the first few Wolfgangs were infact Quilt tops. 
Another thing to keep in mind is that QC on the USA Wolfgangs was kept EXTREMELY high! The QC goal was that you should be able to walk into a music store, take a WG out of the shipped case and it still be intune and perfectly setup.

Posts: 2447 Wow, I did not know that! I saw exactly TWO quilt arch tops, like 13-14 years ago, then never anything USA quilt after that. I did hear that there was a problem getting decent quilt after awhile, though.
I'm starting to see more USA stp's show up everywhere, some nice ones even, but minty trems are getting a little scarce.

We attach a small label to either the side of the magnet or on the inside arm of the basket with our spec number and manufacturing/date code on it. The spec number will begin with the size of the speaker (i.e. for a 10″ it would be 101123). Pogo free tokens. The manufacturing/date code number is as follows: Clean text menu 3 4.
EIA# for ESC Year Week Serial # Metal Group
67 -01 12A 0217 G1 Mad father game for mac.
The '67' tells you that the speaker was built by Eminence, the '01' indicates that the speaker was built in 2001, and the '12' means it was built the 12th week of the year.
